Finally, a quantitative analysis of online porn! Run by French statisticians and sociologists, Sexualitics’ Porngram tool is an fascinating way to compare specific online search terms. Essentially it allows someone to map the popularity of keywords in porn videos titles over time; in their words, “Porngram maps the evolution of words frequencies in the titles of almost 800,000 porn videos.” The researchers have released a preliminary paper of their findings, which you can read here.
Below are some graphs I came up with using Porngram. I think it would be interesting to be able to mark specific events into the timelines to note any changes in keyword frequencies, like when certain laws or regulations are passed, or when best-selling erotic novels are released.
