We recently tried out EverlyWell’s online STD test. We were amazed by how simple, fast, and accurate the test was and would like to recommend it to everyone.
The first step is to order a test kit. Biological females can order a test kit here and biological males can order a test kit here. When you place an order, the test kit will arrive at your house within a few days. From there, you’ll follow the included instructions to collect swab and blood samples (women) or urine and blood samples (men). Then you’ll pop the collected samples back in the mail. Nothing about the packaging indicates that you’re taking an STD test, it looks like you ordered a book in the mail.
You can expect the process of collecting samples to take 30 minutes and your results within 2 to 3 weeks from the day you placed the order online. My results took 3 weeks because I needed to wait until my period was finished – women should not collect samples while on their period.
EverlyWell’s STD Test tests for:
- Hepatitis C
- Herpes Type 2 (HSV Type II)
- HIV (1&2)
Here’s what’s included in the kit:
Everything you need is included in the kit, including a return bag with postage already included. When your kit arrives you are assigned a Unique Kit ID number, which will serve as your identifier. You can use your real name when ordering, choose a pseudonym, or remain anonymous.
If you get squeamish around blood, you should know ahead of time that you will need to prick one of your fingers with a lancet to drop blood onto a card. Personally, I am not the biggest fan of needles but found this part to be about as painless as giving blood samples gets. Here’s what that part of the test looks like:
When EverlyWell receives your samples, they will then be analyzed by a board-certified physician from within your state. When the results are ready EverlyWell will email you. If you test positive for anything, a representative from EverlyWell will call you and discuss treatment options. One option is being prescribed medication directly via EverlyWell.
The degree of privacy and convenience offered by online STD testing cannot be underestimated, in our opinion. At some point, your time is worth more than the time it takes to make an appointment somewhere, get to the appointment, wait around to take the test, and then drive back. Something to keep in mind, however, is that the incubation period for some sexually transmitted infections can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months from a sexual encounter. Also, if you are experiencing symptoms of an STD that are getting worse, reach out to your doctor directly or visit a clinic to receive immediate care.
